No more jumping on the bed

Way past due-
We need a new bed. We are not going to AZ anymore to pick up our missionary son, so we decided to put the money towards a new mattress.
-

Honeymooners- We had the ole water bed. It was nice, but it went out of style. Oh my goodness, I just thought of something hilarious. We were in our first duplex. It was a basement apt. of a house. I was being a complete dork newlywed, and I decided to jump on the waterbed. It was so fun. So then Ed, who was watching me, decided to join in. He gets up and goes up and then down and then where did I go? I completely flew out the window. Seriously. It was a low big window. The turkey locked me out of the house for a bit too. I can't tell you the funniest part though. ;)

Okay moving on. Next phase of life. A borrowed double mattress from my parents. Old, dirty and uncomfortable. It was like my newlywed mashed potatoes. Lump lump..

Moved to new house, and decide to get a queen bed. Ed picks it out. Yeah, it was the Papa Bear kind. "Oh, this bed is too hard". That is the one we are currently trying to sleep on. It has soften some. But only because we have sunk into a hole that each of us have carved out. Honey, where did you go?

Now we are at the point in our life that we just don't care about the cost as much as the comfort. We will sale the children if that is what it takes. We are going for the King now. The big Kahuna. We need space from each other. We have learned this much with the hotels that supply the ultimate luxury of King comfort. But, what to buy. No clue. Have no idea. We have only shopped yard sale, handy me down and discount mattress from the guy at the corner.

Any suggestions. Have you heard of latex beds? Do you like your bed? Bed central help here. Maybe I should mention a brand name and get a discount. Now we are on to something. What does Bob sleep on? Hmm...

We have a Costco bed. Nothing special. I wanted one of those Sleep number beds too. But it was too expensive at the time we were looking.
Love your bed story. We have one too. But it was on our honeymoon & our friends that got married the week before us lived in San Diego & said we could stay a week at there place while there were gone...
Needless to say we thought we broke their headboard!!! They told us years later it had already been broken & they basically set us up!

GO FOR THE KING!!! We love it. My space. His space. Perfect. I wish we had gotten the pillow top like my parents.

You may need to sell the kids, but how about the world's most expensive bed? Get a Hastens for $75,000 here.

In the real world, we love our pillow top. I think it's by Sealy.

I love your waterbed story! As for mattresses, my parents really love their select comfort mattress, they said it's much better than anything they've ever used.

I forgot about your funny waterbed story and knowing the whole story....let's just say use your imagination people. It's kind of like one of those dreams that everyone always has and is so glad when they wake up and find out it is only a dream. I will leave it at that. You're ex-friend! J. I'm even afraid to put my whole name now.

Jan said...

I am hoping that Ed doesn't read this one Jera. He might just tell the story. And I would probably die.

Jessica said...

We have a King size memorie foam and we L-O-V-E it! My inlaws have pillow top and it's good too, but I have never had a bad nights sleep on the foam. Good luck!

Ms. Kristen said...

That is a funny story! I am calling Jera soon to find out the rest....now that she isn't your friend anymore! Too funny!
I have a big fat king, pillow top that I bought at FUrniture Row Outlet! SOOOOOO nice!

How funny!

We have a queen and it gets smaller and smaller every day as I get bigger and bigger.

Good luck finding the perfect king!

Carolyn- Okay, I will have to sale the kids and a few more other things. Even though the kids are worth a fortune. That bed is something else :)

Gotta love the good old water bed days...

When you figure it out, will you let me know? My 12 year old has the most comfortable bed in the whole house, and it's one we got at a store's going out of business sale. I know it's a Serta Pillow Top, but that's it. So comfy. Sometimes when the boys are sleeping at Grammy's, I go sleep in his bed instead of mine.

You waterbed story is cracking me up. I always knew you had a wild side.

First of all the story about the water bed is hilarious!! I laughed so hard. We love our bed. It's a Sealy Mattress that we bought at Costco. It's really comfortable!

Do not go cheap~!Sad to say but the more expensive the mattress the better. You cannot skimp on mattresses! When you see the prices you are going to want to go for the little less costly one (You will regret it) Do I sound like a matress salesman here? We have a king and LOOOOOVE it...We meet in the middle and say, "hello there" then it's off to our own sides of the bed~! I think this is one of the reasons we have such a wonderful marriage! :)
Have a great weekend Jan!
Robin~♥

Love the story of you jumping out the window...too funny!
We need a new mattress, too. We both wake up with aching backs everyday. It's tooo soft. I've been thinking off going to Papa Beat direction next time.

Latex beds? do they double as condoms?

Sher said...

Ok, I just read the comment and noticed Merriane is thinkin the same thing as me...only with a little more tact. I like to just come out and say it!

Love your stories!

On our honeymoon, we slept like babies on the mattress at the hotel. The hotel actually had brochures for the mattress company. I can't remember what it was -- I think it started with a D.

The hubs wants a California King because he's so tall -- but I like to be close to him to cuddle!

i'm dying to know the REALLY "funny part" of that story.... my imagination can't be as bad as thr reality, LOL...i'm thinking you flew out the window NAKED as a jaybird????? we have an awesome mattress- it's just a beautyrest. we've been sleeping on it for about 12 years and it's good as new. it's a queen-sized. we love that size. not too small, not too big. i want to be close enough to feel his body heat, but not so close that we're touching. not that i mind touching- just not when i am trying to go to sleep for some reason. TMI?

The Motherboard said...

Bwah-hahahahahahaha! You got launched out the window in your skivvies?? Bwah-hahahahahahahaha!!!

That made my day. Right there.

When you figure out what mattress to get, let me know, cause we need a new WAY BAD!!

My 'dream' bed is the sleep number bed! I haven't checked them out, but they sound nice!

gibkidsmom said...

Jan- I just have to ask...were you dressed when you flew out the window? LOL

When I went to visit my sister a few weeks ago I got to try out their sleep number bed. It was amazing! I had slept on it before but forgot how nice it was. She says it is the BEST investment that they have ever made. Just my .02

Hope all goes well tomorrow!

I guess you could stay we're still Newlyweds so I don't have any good references on bed types or any good water bed stories for that matter! Yours on the other hand was hilarious! Good luck with the bed finding, and kudos on the King Size.

Janiece said...

heheee...so who got to see you pounding on the door in your B-day Suit???
I hate my bed...have forever but was what we could afford after having the spine dr. say..."no more jumping on the water bed"
It is some foam thing that fits into the waterbed frame. I should have put that down as something I would do if I had a million dollars...new bedroom set.
and latex bed...no...and I will stop there my sick little mind is whirling...

Sarah said...

That story about you guys jumping on the waterbed is so funny, I can't believe you flew out the window!

I would love to buy a new mattress myself, I'm wishing we would have just bit the bullet when we moved and gotten a bigger, nicer mattress. It would be so worth it.

Jenn said...

Jan oh Jan, I don't think we need the detail...we can all imagine! And you're still married? Locking me out might have been a deal breaker!

Send me your old mattress...I might need it to hide under tonight!

I'm glad you're going all out with the new mattress. Once you go KING, you'll never go back. It's like sleeping in your own country! You only have to touch each other if you want to.

Mother Goose said...

we bed hunted too and had a waterbed when we first married. I was never bounced out of a window from it but we have some fun stories.

We too moved to a queen bed. Then it was handed down to our children. We bought a new box spring and that thing still sleeps great.

We are in a king and when we first bought it we loved it. It cost a couple grand
. like 3k to be exact and I am disappointed with it now. We have had it.

dislike my bed with a passion...I will live vicariously through you.

LOL Jan!! Too funny. Good luck with the bed hunting. Let us know which one you choose. I have an old lumpy queen right now - so have no advice on which to choose.

I'm off to catch up on your other posts! Missed your blog like crazy..

Jan I so glad that you are ready to graduate to a king sized. We suffered through a few queen sized mattress sets, but after so many hotel rooms with a king sized bed, we knew what we needed. Well I did at least, but Don is easily cajoled. Also after our first couple of beds that Don insisted we buy used, I finally put my foot down and told him we were NOT going to buy another used bed. I asked him if he would buy used underwear, and of course the thought of that totally repelled him so I told him that that was how I felt about used beds. Since them we've bought a few lemon new mattress's but we've never ever bought used again.

Jan,
I just want you to know I am thinking of you and Mattie and little Nicole's family this weekend. know prayers are coming your way.

Yikes. So funny.

We just invested big time on the Simmons King bed. Got the top of the line... like one of your former readers, we just should have stuck with COSTCO beds.

Although this is a very nice bed ( I am on it now typing) it was expensive and I darn near had to sell a kid to afford it. However, we have not invested in a bed in over 14 years. So... I guess it's a fairly cheap investment if I keep it for another 10 years.

Good luck. OH... ours has a 4 inch latex top and I do like it a lot.

We had a water bed years ago! Your's is a funny story!

Two wild and crazy kids!

Our old waterbed is now our mantel in the living room, well not literally, we ripped up the wood and used it to make our mantel, and closet shelves and.....

If I could buy any bed in the world I would buy a Marriot Hotel bed. They were asked so often about their beds, pillows and bedding that they now sell them. The very best nights sleep I have ever had are in a Marriot Hotel and I don't sleep well away from home. Just the right amount of firmness and then this fluffy cloud on top. Dream land here you come.

As for king, I am always cold and need my mates body heat and when we sleep in a king it is like he is miles away. You wake up and have to holler to see if anyone else is still in the bed with you.

We have a memory foam bed and it was comfortable for the first year or two, now it isn't quite so much. Check out the Marriot bed. Go spend a night or tow in the Portland Marriot downtown and you will know for sure.

Jill said...

I had NO IDEA the Marriott is now selling their beds!!! This is such great news because that is exactly the bed I love. So do I just contact the hotel?? Are these beds off the charts expensive?
Thank you Garden Maiden for letting me know. I would have never guessed this on my own.

We slept on a lumpy ex-hotel bed for the longest time. Whenever we got too crazy on it, I mean, whenever we got on it, one corner would fall through the support.

I don't know what kind of bed I own now, but it's infinitely better, and I love it.
